Bead Soup March 2012

My second time around.
Lori Anderson chose me to be a part of the latest round of Bead Soup and I'm so grateful to her generous spirit. Lori throws wonderful parties and just asks us to have fun and stretch ourselves.

I received a beautiful Bead Soup mix from Janel Dudley  which included a set of of her handmade beads.

Janel stumped me a bit. Black and silver and earthy. Now I'm down with the earthy bit, but I really don't do silver or black. At first, I had a very definite idea of what I wanted to do and then I pulled out some of the new pieces I've been working on and everything changed.

Kismet, serendipity, fate.
Janel's beads are a dead on match to the colors of patina and enamel I'm working in..

My last Bead Soup partner, Barbara Lewis turned me onto the joys of Torch Fired Enamel. The wire above was fired in colors of black, robin's egg blue and white. The disc has patinated hues of blues, black and gold that all complement Janel's gorgeous lampwork to perfection.  The Aquqmarine rondelles are just the right shade to make the lampwork look even richer.

I used more of my treasures in a second piece.
The little fossil discs are both strong and delicate and I love them. Janel drilled the holes and I gave then jump rings. The golden Bakelite barrels belonged to my Grandmother and they seemed right with Janel's lapmpwork and the silver Hill Tribe beads. The disc was another of my explorations in etching and patina. Janel's clasp is a great counterpoint to the disc and the whole feels to me unearthed.

This was a good party.
Please, have a look at the other participants, leave comments and go make something!

Both pieces are beautiful - but that first one with the twirly enameled wire is sensational! It really does match the lampwork perfectly. What a beautiful, original necklace you've created there!

Two very beautiful pieces. I love that each has it's own personality. Your enamel and patina pieces are to die for!

I Love the fossil discs. When I was young I hunted for these on creek banks and in my gravel driveway. I still look for them when we are on drives in the country.

Very nice! I've had the torch fire kit in my fav's for some time now. You make it look fun. To describe your designs this comes to mind, 'simple complexity'. Very wearable. Good job Miss!

You may have had trouble at first with coming up with something, but these two necklaces are fabulous. I really like the first one (because I'm partial to blues), but they both have a beachy, rustic feel to them. I love that!

Torch fired enamels are great! And you did it in such a harmonizing way to the beads you received. Both necklaces are wonderful and one of a kind - could'nt decide, which one I like more!

I really love that wire you made and what you did with it. I really want to start messing with enamel but I'm scared of blowing up my house. Your pieces are great. Congratulations.
